We love cats. A lot!!!!

Along with a team of awesome partners and dedicated vets, we spay and neuter feral cats, and then set up feeding and care programs for them in order to improve their quality of life.

We started our journey with our own cats – spoiling them rotten.

The ethical need to help the feral cat population was the catalyst for the founding of MOZAM CATS.

Now we work hard, having great fun, to make a difference. Come and join the family!

Ponta do Ouro (also Ponta d’Ouro in English meaning “tip of gold”, in reference to an existing cape at the southern part of the beach) is a town in the extreme south of Mozambique, lying on the Mozambique Channel south of Maputo and just north of the border with South Africa. It is known for its beach, for its dolphins and for its offshore diving and deep-sea fishing. From other points in Mozambique, Ponta do Ouro can only be reached by a 4×4 vehicle as there are no tarred roads.

Our recent trip to Mozambique was filled with happy success stories 😊 During our trip we sterilised a total of 33 animals and successfully vaccinated 70! Three of the feral kittens we saved were also adopted!
We arrived on 9 May to clean and prepare traps, as well as scout trapping locations. Mozam Cats assisted with trapping feral cats at various locations and offered locals the use of newly purchased carriers to bring their own pet cats in for annual vaccinations and deworming. New carries sponsored by the amazing Debbie and Neil. Trapped feral cats were kept overnight in recovery room, with water and food provided once anaesthesia had worn off <3

Feral cats have an average of 1.4 litters per year

Feral cats have an average of 1.4 litters per year, with an average 3.5 live births in each litter. That equals 4.9 kittens per year, per female feral cat. Feral cats live short, hard lives on the streets. They never die of “old age” as they often suffer from deadly contagious diseases.
